What Tim Ferris Taught Me

If you haven’t read Tim Ferris’ 4-hour Work Week you should.  Why?  He has the life you want.  The life you’re willing to multi-task and over-schedule and work all night for in hopes of “making it”.

Tim Ferris teaches us how to live the life you love by reminding us of one thing.  Do what you love to do and get help to do the rest.  He’s made gazillions of dollars from it.

(If you’re active parent reading this and laughing – go nuts!  As for everyone else, what’s your excuse?)

The irony of it all is so many people claim they’re hungry to “make it” but they’re only willing to go a drive-thru to fuel their dreams.  How does a diet of addictive salt, sugar or heavy carbs help?

Maybe it’s time we shift from a fast food model of success to a Mary Oliver inspired journey.  Consider her words:

“One day you finally knew what you had to do, and began…”

Today’s affirmation:  Weight loss is about waiting less.

PS – Tim has a new book called the 4-hour Body.  Let me know what you think.

What did we do before iPhones, Nanos and MP3 players?  I know I can’t hit the gym without some high energy tracks.  Here are 20 tunes to help me run, lunge, punch or get those squats in.

1.       Gwen Stefani – “Hollaback Girl”

2.       C & C Music Factory – “Gonna Make You Sweat”

3.       Black Sheep – “The Choice Is Yours.”  Pick it up, pick it up, PICK IT UP!

5.       Maroon 5 – “Harder to Breath”

6.       K-OS  – “Superstar”  Ooh I love this girl.  She’s a superstarrrr!

One word – Habit. Try these five tips to get RESULTS!

1.       Park awaaaaay from the building. Instead of cruising the parking lot for the spot closest to the door try parking away from the building.  Sure, it adds a little more time to your walk but you’re also getting exercise. 😉

2.       Cook on Sunday. Pick a day in the week to prepare all your meals at home and set aside portions for the rest of the week.

3.       Leave the plastic at home. Set a dining out budget for $50-$75 a week – in cash.  Once the cash runs out that’s it.

4.       Ditch movie-going. Scratch that.  Send your regrets for any get togethers that focus on grabbing a bite to eat.  What about a Wii-tourney?  A bike ride.  A little twister anyone?

5.       Drink water. No, not Vitamin Water or Crystal Light my friends.  We’re talking about the real thing.  Nine times out of 10, those hunger pangs you get are for good ole agua.

Affirmation:  I deserve the time it takes to take care of myself.  This is my time.

When Monica told me about 99 Days to Fine I was kind of floored.  I thought, this is BIG! It takes a lot of guts to say “I wanna get healthy” in a way the whole wide world can see.

As a friend, I can relate.  My weight has see-sawed between cutting out meat, then meat and fish, then diary.  By the time I was through with it all I lost 55 pounds.  And I was super cute on the outside.  But what has really made the difference over the years is what I’ve done to feel fine on the inside.

As a life coach, there’s something I want you, Monica or anyone else going through this process to remember.  It’s simple.  “What you do doesn’t matter.  What matters is why you do it.”

If this is about being fine in the eyes of some guy, going a dress size or some other way to get attention, I’ve got news for you.  Weight loss is not about getting attention.  It’s about paying attention to the most important person in your life – YOU.

Over the next 99 days, I’ll offer tips and affirmations to support your journey.

Tip #1:  Get a journal and write this affirmation down.

My body tells the story my mouth will not.
